How to Test Your Screen Refresh Rate (Hz) & FPS
- Keep this browser tab focused on the screen you wish to measure.
- Observe the Live Measured Frequency as it continuously calculates the rolling average of 120 consecutive frames.
- Check the Frame Time Interval (e.g., ~6.94ms indicates a 144Hz panel, ~4.17ms indicates a 240Hz panel).
- If using a multi-monitor setup with different refresh rates, drag the browser window to your other monitor to observe instant frequency switching.
Browser API Precision & Limitations
Browser frame rate capping (e.g., energy saver mode or OS v-sync settings) may limit measured rate.
Standard note: A passing test confirms your operating system and browser receive valid hardware event signals. It does not replace physical laboratory calibration.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
01.If your 144Hz or 240Hz monitor is showing 60Hz, open Windows Display Settings > Advanced display and verify the 'Choose a refresh rate' dropdown is set to maximum.
02.Ensure your HDMI or DisplayPort cable supports your monitor's resolution at high refresh rates.
03.In Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, verify that 'Hardware Acceleration' is enabled in browser settings.
